The Three Faces of Emma

Yesterday was my day with Miss Emma. Our first task of the day was "cooking" in the kitchen.
A gourmet meal of uncooked rice and water, with a bit of apple juice to drink. We did make some edible jello too....which, don't tell her mama, but we ate with our fingers right out of the dish after it had set!

Later in the day she became the fairy from Pinocchio - yes, we had another viewing of that classic. Amazing how still another generation is captured by it's magic! And yes, that is a different outfit, because well, there was an hour of painting during the day..... I however remained in my pj's all day!

What can I say - she has her "nana" wrapped around her finger!

Aaron's recovery

My friend Sue's son, Aaron has turned the corner! After 6 weeks of his body fighting off the effects of the Stevens Johnsons syndrome he is finally able to sit up and TALK and yesterday had his first solid food. This allowed them to remove the feeding tube! Sue and her family are so grateful for your prayers. This photo of Aaron and his daughter Riley was taken last Aug at his brother Kyle's wedding. Yesterday he was able to call his kids and talk to them for the first time. What a thrill that must have been! I am sure he is ready to say good-bye to his wonderful caretakers at Detroit Receiving Hosp. and get home to his family!!! Let's pray it's soon!

Enough!

.......Okay, enough winter!!!! This photo was taken a week ago when we received 14" of snow in one day. This morning we have freezing rain on top of it....I've just spent an hour trying to chop through what has now become 2" of ice on my sidewalks and drive......only to have the open spaces fill up with water immediately, which will freeze tonight when the temp drops once again into the frigid zone. I give up!!!
It was just yesterday that Emma and I were outdoors enjoying the snow piles and I was able to see the beauty of it through the eyes of a 3 yr old. She spent the day and night with me. One of her new favorite things is to get on my computer and play PBS games! It just amazes me!!!
Her daddy was finally able to come get her around 1 today, after the ice on the roads had melted a bit. I am now ready for a nap. She must have been having some fierce dreams cause at one point I awoke to a slap on the face, but when I looked she was sound asleep.....I think!

Valentine Memories....

My mother has these wonderful Valentines that she has saved since she was a young girl in the 1920's. I set them out on her "knick-knack" shelf in her room at the assisted living facility, so all the workers and visitors could enjoy them. These are about a third of all that she has saved.
The little girl and boy in the back have feet that "walk"
Five that stand pretty much on their own - aren't the faces wonderful!
This little ones arm moves and causes her eyes to follow... The tipsy pink card is tissue that folds closed.

More memories. Needless to say my mother kept these away from us 3 kids while growing up or they wouldn't be in tact!
Happy Valentines Day!
